Meeting Minutes: October 2014

I have attached the income and expense statement for the third quarter.  We gained some from the October Hive build, about $450 net, but some additional income and all of the expenses will show up next quarter.  It looks like we are doing ok on the bee safe neighborhood materials.  We took in $200 less fees in the paypal account for the Plant Propagation Cooperative.  I decided to pay the fees from LSI instead of shorting the cooperative $6.40 but you can see the pass through.  At least we know someone could make an online donation if they wanted to .

We are now registered with Amazon.smile so, if you ask, Amazon will contribute 0.5% of all your purchases to LSI.  We also have a Guide Star Gold rating for our commitment to transparency.  Once we have the web site up dates (discussed next) we may be able to use that to apply for a Google ad words grant.  What we will need is a compelling story of how we will use the donations.

Leo Kacenjar, who built the Digital Garden on Leetsdale, also turns out to be a drupal programmer and has agreed to update our site for free.  That great news is offset slightly by the fact that it will no longer work to have my son-in-law host the web site so we will be incurring a monthly hosting fee.  In the long run it seems that this is a better way to go because Mike no longer has time to work with us and Leo will not need to go through Mike to get changes made.

We have two more events this coming year.  Saturday, 1-4, we will be demonstrating the building of a hugel mulch.  We have 17 RSVPs on the Meetup group so I have no idea how many will show up.  On November 15 we will hold the third annual Principles of Community Design workshop.  If any of you have not attended, I think that is you David, you will gain certain insights into how I think about these things.  If you have attended before attending a second time will allow you to contribute more than you did the first time and you are all, of course, welcome.  Starting Monday I will be trying to nail down the 35 participants.  Peggy has agreed to cook again .

Dana and I will be at the Denver City Council Meeting on Monday at 5:30 where, apparently, the City Council will adopt the attached Proclamation encouraging Denver citizens to form bee safe neighborhoods.  Talk about exercising our influence to promote positive change.  Go Dana.

Please let me know your comments and questions.  If you approve of what we are doing please indicate that and I will post this with your comments and approvals on the web site.

Thanks for improving our habitat,
