Meeting Minutes: March 2016
Discussion of Denver grant program with respect to LSI's food cell tech.
- consensus seemed to be that following up on this notion is worthwhile, but that we should identify partners
- Michael suggested partnering with restaurants; others suggested GrowHaus, Revision, Jovial Concepts
- James offered to assist with the grant proposal
- Aleece suggested that we follow an RFP approach to find a partner who would 'fit' exactly what we're looking for - there was broad agreement about this
A suggestion was made by Don to to add our 'wins' to the LSI website - e.g. Bee Safe Neighborhood program.
Ruth talked about wanting LSI to have a healing function for people - perhaps based on a congregational model. Topics discussed included intentional community, unused human potential, a suggestion for a future meeting to focus on this.
Morphed into discussion about LSI's mission - David stated 'we provide the tools - and others can use them to achieve food justice - thus, seeking partners for latter component makes sense. The underlying goal is to turn unused human and biological potential into an asset.
James gave an impromptu presentation on growing ginseng and reishi mushrooms in Colorado, easily (backyard, no special environment) using sun pasteurization. He suggested this could readily be monetized, and might make sense for some of the local food justice and/or urban ag folks looking for income streams.
Soe discussion of storytelling and getting the message out. Oz agreed to work with David on developing storytelling skills.
Prior to note taking, we'd covered several 'good ideas' - when asked to recapitulate, this was the list:
- Aleece suggested newsletter release be once per month, max. She also suggested some web site work: creation of landing pages for individual topics covered in newsletter; as well as doing some SEO that would lead googlers to those landing pages.
- Don: we shoul[d find ways to celebrate our successes. Discussion on appropriate measures of success.
- Michael said we needed to avoid being all sunshine and light - that integrating the 'dark side' was important, and David noted we already do that.
- Oz suggested more preaching to the choir; that our stories should start with the concrete and then move to abstract instead of the other way around.
- James suggested we are on a cusp.
